Throughout his soccer career, Ben Crawley has excelled at all levels. Ben grew up in Austin and graduated from Westlake High School in 1989. He was a member of the first Austin Capitals team that finished 3rd in Nationals in 1988. Ben also was a member of the U-16 and U-20 National Teams. Upon high school graduation, Ben then attended the University of Virginia where he was a 4-year starter and Captain his last two seasons. Ben went on to become a 1st Team All-America his senior season while leading the Cavaliers to their 3rd National Championship in his 4-year playing career.
After spending two years playing in Germany, Ben moved back to the States to play with the Richmond Kickers, winning the National Championship, as well as, the US Open Cup. Ben was elected to the All-Star Team following that season and entered the inaugural Major League Soccer draft. Ben was selected by DC United as they went on to win the Lamar Hunt MLS Championship trophy and the US Open Cup title. After achieving success at the national level, Ben decided to move back to Austin to finish his playing career with the Austin Lone Stars and start coaching with his old club, the Austin Capitals. Brad O'Kelley, Founder - Director of Operations
Over the years, Brad O’Kelley has demonstrated his love and focus to improve South Austin athletics. Brad grew up playing soccer in South Austin, over time playing with USA (United South Austin), Austin Capitals and Austin Flyers. He played collegiate level soccer at University of North Texas for a short time and later finished his Exercise and Sports Science degree at Southwest Texas State University. While working on his degree, Brad was the head coach for the Southwest Texas Women’s Team, coaching them to the school’s first club national championship. After graduating in 1998, Brad taught Special Education at Bowie High School and was the Head Coach for the Boy’s Varsity program. At the same time Brad was a Staff Coach with USA (United South Austin).
In 1999, Brad took an opportunity to coach at the collegiate level at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. He began as an assistant and within two years became the Head Men’s and Women’s Coach for the NCAA Division II program. However, Austin (and the desire to have a family-friendly job) called him back to a club position with the Austin United Soccer Club as an Assistant Director. He later became the Senior Girl’s Director of Coaching when the club merged with Austin Capitals. In 2005, Brad and his family were relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. He accepted the first Girl’s Director of Coaching with Concorde Fire Soccer Club; at the time, the club was ranked #10 in the nation in club rankings.
The O’Kelley family spent two years in Atlanta before moving back to Austin. Brad returned to his previous employer Austin United Capital Soccer Club, later becoming Lonestar Soccer Club. Currently, Brad oversees all of the day-to-day operations for Austin Sports Academy while continuing to be involved in the South Texas Olympic Development Program as a staff coach. Brad and wife, Joanne, have two children that keep them very busy on the weekends with multiple athletic endeavors.
